The tax year runs from 6th April to 5th April, unlike the financial year which runs from 1st January to 31st December.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This calculator will help you work out what money you\u2019ll owe HMRC in taxes from driving for Uber.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two taxes that you\u2019ll likely be charged:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Income Tax<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Insurance<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/income-tax\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Income Tax<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a tax we all pay in the UK on our income above what\u2019s known as the Personal Allowance. Currently, it\u2019s set at \u00a312,570. But it\u2019s subject to change every year. National Insurance is a tax that enables you to claim certain state-provided benefits. Here are some examples of benefits you can claim through paying National Insurance:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sick Pay<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Maternity Allowance<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use of the NHS<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">State Pension<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2026and more!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What if I work for more than one company?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This question relates to your employment status. If you\u2019re employed by a company as a permanent employee, you\u2019re taxed automatically by a system called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/paye\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pay As You Earn<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (PAYE).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Driving for Uber, alternatively, is a freelance job i.e. you\u2019re not employed by Uber and you choose when you do and don\u2019t work.
