They are forms that employers give employees, which contain your income and tax information. This includes Income Tax and National Insurance contributions that you\u2019ve paid over the year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A P60 form also contains all your salary information, which can be useful for a variety of reasons which we\u2019ll discuss. While a P60 form is usually just 1 part, a P45 form, on the other hand, is 4.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-blue m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <h2>The 4 parts to a P45 form<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Part 1<\/b> &#8211; this goes to <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/hmrc\/\">HMRC<\/a><\/li>\n<li><b>Part 1A<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; you keep this for your own records<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Part 2<\/b> &amp; <b>Part 3<\/b> &#8211; you give this to your new employer or to the job centre (if you&#8217;re not working)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Are P45 and P60 different?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, they are! What\u2019s the difference between the two, you ask? \ud83d\udc47<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">P60<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You are given your <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/p60\/\">P60<\/a> at the end of every year by your employer. Your employer is required by law to give you one when you leave. Again, this is another document you should take good care of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A P45 form summarises your income and tax payments so far in the year and states your tax code. This is important for your next employer to know. If your new employer doesn\u2019t know your tax code, you\u2019ll be put on an emergency tax code and might end up paying too much tax. Don\u2019t worry, you can always claim it back. With a P45 however, you don\u2019t need to worry about it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 4 parts to a P45, so it would be good to familiarise yourself with what they are and where they go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>I\u2019ve lost my P45\/P60\u2026 is that a problem?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you lose or don\u2019t have your P45 or your P60, don\u2019t worry. It can be a pain, and we\u2019ve all been there, but there are a few things you can do.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-columns-mini m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-columns-mini__container\">\n\n        \n        \n        <div class=\"b-columns-mini__item m-nude\">\n                                    \n            <div class=\"b-columns-mini__item-content\">\n                <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n                    <h2>I&#8217;ve lost my P60<\/h2>\n<p>If you can\u2019t find your P60, don\u2019t stress! HMRC aren\u2019t able to provide a replacement copy but you can always ask your current employer for another copy. They are required to keep these on record for three years, so it\u2019s always worth asking. Here&#8217;s what to do if your employer won&#8217;t give you your P45:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to the HMRC website and use your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/personal-tax-account\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">personal tax account<\/a> for the information your P60 would contain<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/hm-revenue-customs\/contact\/income-tax-enquiries-for-individuals-pensioners-and-employees\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Contact HMRC<\/a> directly for the information on your P60<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n\n        \n        \n        <div class=\"b-columns-mini__item m-purple\">\n                                    \n            <div class=\"b-columns-mini__item-content\">\n                <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n                    <h2>I&#8217;ve lost my P45<\/h2>\n<p>As we said, your P45 is given to you by your employer when you leave a job to make sure you\u2019re out on the right tax code for your new job. Again, HMRC do not provide replacement copies if you lose your P45.
