As long as it is not your main residence, it will most likely qualify for second home tax &#8211; this includes;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Buy-to-let properties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long-term investment properties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Holiday homes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Short-term\/seasonal lets such as an Airbnb<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So what taxes exactly do I have to pay on a second home?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four different types of taxes you may be liable to pay (pretty steep, we know). Some are dependent on what your second home is used for.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. <strong>Stamp Duty Land Tax&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the U.K, the most common tax to pay when buying a home is <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/stamp-duty-tax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stamp Duty<\/a>. For example, you can dodge stamp duty (legally, of course) or you may even be entitled to a stamp duty refund if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your second home is mobile, e.g. a caravan or boat \ud83d\udee5\ufe0f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your second home is worth less than \u00a340,000 \ud83d\udcb8<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You sell your main residence within three years of buying your second home \u23f3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can you have two main residences to avoid second home tax?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A person can only have one main residence. For tax purposes, married couples and civil partners who live together can also only have one main residence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-blue m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <h3>Example:<\/h3>\n<p>Patricia and Liam are ready to start a new chapter together! \ud83c\udfe1. Although this is their first home <em>together<\/em>, Patricia already owns a home.
