Well, luckily, you\u2019re not the only one! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why we\u2019ve put together a short and simple guide that will help you breeze through the registration process, whether you&#8217;re starting fresh or getting back on track!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Firstly, what is a Self Assessment?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/self-assessment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Self Assessment<\/a> is the method used to submit personal tax returns to HMRC in the UK. Ok, let\u2019s break it down:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re self employed, and haven\u2019t filed a tax return before:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Register for Self Assessment through your business tax account<\/strong>: You\u2019ll need your government gateway ID to hand &#8211; chances are you\u2019ve forgotten this, right? No worries, if you have a look in your email, it should be there!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In about 10 days, your UTR number should come through the letterbox: <\/strong>Be sure to keep this safe otherwise it will be a pain when it\u2019s time to file your tax return!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if I\u2019ve registered for Self Assessment before?<\/h2>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-blue m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <p><strong>If you\u2019ve registered in the past and filed your tax return online but didn\u2019t file one last year:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can re-register online using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tax.service.gov.uk\/shortforms\/form\/CWF1ST?dept-name=CWF1&amp;sub-dep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CWF1 form<\/a><\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll need your UTR for this (you should\u2019ve received this when you first registered)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you registered but didn\u2019t use the online services to file your tax return:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sign in to your business tax account (or create one)<\/li>\n<li>Add Self Assessment<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll need your Government Gateway ID and UTR number<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Whether you\u2019ve done a tax return before or not, you can register via post by:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Filling in this <a href=\"https:\/\/public-online.hmrc.gov.uk\/lc\/content\/xfaforms\/profiles\/forms.html?contentRoot=repository:\/\/\/Applications\/NICs_iForms\/1.0\/CWF1_20167&amp;template=CWF1.xdp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">online form<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Printing it off&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sending it to HMRC &#8211; easy peasy!&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-blue m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <p>You can fill out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tax.service.gov.uk\/shortforms\/form\/SA1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SA1 form<\/a> if you fall into one of these categories:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You\u2019ve become a company director<\/li>\n<li>Have capital gains tax to pay<\/li>\n<li>Have taxable foreign income<\/li>\n<li>Receive income from land and property in the UK<\/li>\n<li>Have any uncollected income tax<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>You can fill this form out online or print and send via post &#8211; whatever is easiest for you!<\/p>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What information do I need to register for Self Assessment?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Good question! Here\u2019s how to get back on track: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Do you really need to re-register?<\/strong> First, check if you need to <strong>re-register for Self Assessment<\/strong>. If you missed filing last year or your income has changed (maybe you\u2019ve started a new gig, gone self-employed, or are receiving income from property), it\u2019s time to step up and get re-registered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gather your details<\/strong>. You\u2019ll need your UTR number and your Government Gateway ID. Can\u2019t find them? Don\u2019t stress! You can easily recover them through HMRC\u2019s website, so no need to panic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fill out the CWF1 form<\/strong>. The CWF1 form is your golden ticket to <strong>re-registering for Self Assessment<\/strong>. Head to your Government Gateway account, fill it out, and submit it online. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Re-registering for Self Assessment <\/strong>might seem like a lot, but it\u2019s nothing to stress about. If you need help along the way, we\u2019ve got you covered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I missed the deadline to register for Self Assessment, now what?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yikes!
