Again, probably not word for word.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, this isn\u2019t a tale like <em>A Christmas Carol<\/em>, where HMRC, the main character, receives a personality transplant, like Ebenezer Scrooge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No, HMRC\u2019s gratuitous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/christmas-bonus\">Christmas bonus tax-free payment<\/a> has concrete limits \ud83e\udee0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, let\u2019s unwrap what they are\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the bonus?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Exactly what it says on the tin!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a \u00a310 tax-free bonus from HMRC for Christmas. It may not be much, but it makes a difference. It\u2019s usually made in the first full week of December, so keep your eyes peeled if you qualify.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wait, what? Yep, you need to qualify for the bonus and it depends on the benefits you\u2019re paid.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HMRC has the final <em>sleigh&nbsp;<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, for some, and fortunately for others, the deciding factor for receiving the&nbsp; \u00a310 tax-free payment before Christmas is not Santa\u2019s naughty or nice list \ud83d\udc40<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get the mysterious Christmas Bonus you must be present or \u2018ordinarily resident\u2019, during the qualifying week, in one of the following locations:<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-nude m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li>UK<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>Channel Islands<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>Isle of Man<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>Gibraltar<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<p>A person is ordinarily resident if they are living in the United Kingdom lawfully, voluntarily, or for settled purposes as part of the regular order of their life for the time being, whether for a long or short duration.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must also receive at least one, of these benefits, in the \u2018qualifying week\u2019:<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-blue m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li>Adult Disability Payment<\/li>\n<li>Armed Forces Independence Payment<\/li>\n<li>Attendance Allowance<\/li>\n<li>Carer\u2019s Allowance<\/li>\n<li>Carer Support Payment<\/li>\n<li>Child Disability Payment<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li><!-- wp:list-item -->Disability Living Allowance<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li><!-- wp:list-item -->Pension Credit &#8211; the guarantee element<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li><!-- wp:list-item -->Personal Independence Payment (PIP)<!-- \/wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li><!-- wp:list-item -->State Pension (including Graduated Retirement Benefit)<\/li>\n<li>Widowed Parent\u2019s Allowance<\/li>\n<li><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item -->Widow\u2019s Pension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<p>And, that\u2019s just to name a few! To see the full list of qualifying benefits, click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/christmas-bonus\/eligibility\">here<\/a> \ud83d\udd17<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have not claimed your <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/state-pension\/\">State Pension<\/a> and are not entitled to one of the other qualifying benefits you will not get a Christmas Bonus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Have your elf a Merry Christmas!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems like HMRC isn\u2019t leaving anybody out this festive season \ud83d\ude4c&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re married, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/civil-partnership\/\">civil partnership<\/a> or living with a significant other and you\u2019re both entitled to one of the qualifying benefits you\u2019ll each get a Christmas Bonus &#8211; woohoo!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your spouse or civil partner does not get one of the qualifying benefits, fear not!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-columns-mini m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-columns-mini__container\">\n\n        \n        \n        <div class=\"b-columns-mini__item m-yellow\">\n                                    \n            <div class=\"b-columns-mini__item-content\">\n                <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n                    <p>They may still get the Christmas Bonus if both the following apply:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>You\u2019re both over State Pension age by the end of the qualifying week \ud83e\uddd3<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>Your partner was also present (or \u2018ordinarily resident\u2019) in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Gibraltar, European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland during the qualifying week \ud83d\udccd<\/li>\n\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n\n        \n        \n        <div class=\"b-columns-mini__item m-purple\">\n                                    \n            <div class=\"b-columns-mini__item-content\">\n                <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n                    <p>One of the following must also apply:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>You\u2019re entitled to an increase of a qualifying benefit for your partner or civil partner<\/li>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>The only qualifying benefit you\u2019re getting is Pension Credit \ud83d\udcb8<\/li>\n\n                <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n\n        \n        \n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-columns-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to claim<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Luckily, you don\u2019t need to actually claim the Christmas Bonus. You should get it automatically! So, don\u2019t worry, you\u2019ve not missed out if you haven\u2019t received it &#8211; you might just not qualify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think you should get it because you do qualify for it, but haven\u2019t received the payment, contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/contact-jobcentre-plus\">Jobcentre Plus office<\/a> that deals with your payments.
