{"id":339,"date":"2019-06-11T08:32:08","date_gmt":"2019-06-11T07:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/?p=339"},"modified":"2023-12-20T14:54:03","modified_gmt":"2023-12-20T14:54:03","slug":"government-gateway-replacement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/self-assessment-basics\/government-gateway-replacement\/","title":{"rendered":"What was the Government Gateway and how do I login now?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Government Gateway was the system used to sign up for the UK government\u2019s online services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people used the Government Gateway to log in to HMRC and file their personal tax return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was shut down in&nbsp;<strong>March 2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So how do I log in to HMRC now?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can log in to HMRC\u2019s replacement system, <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/hmrc-online-services\/\">HMRC Online<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/log-in-register-hmrc-online-services\"> Services<\/a>. You can use this new government digital service for things like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self assessment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal or business tax accounts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Corporation tax&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PAYE for employers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can I still use my old Government Gateway user ID and password?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes! Your old Government Gateway user ID and password will still be valid to use for HMRC Online Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What if I forgot my Government Gateway login details?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve all forgotten an old password at some point! But don\u2019t worry, your Government Gateway login is very much retrievable as long as you have your email address! That\u2019s why we\u2019ve written a whole guide on what to do if you&#8217;ve forgotten your login details!
