We\u2019ll do our best to demystify the taxes mentioned in the Labour manifesto and what it could mean for your pockets.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A 360 tax overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The new government have made a few general tax-related promises to the people. Basically, it allows private equity fund managers to claim millions of pounds in bonuses as \u201ccarried interest\u201d. Any reforms will mostly likely go through the <a href=\"https:\/\/obr.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Office for Budget Responsibility<\/a> for analysis first, since this is an extremely sensitive subject (probably one of the most-hated taxes, yikes).<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-cta-mini m-purple m-align-left\">\n    \n    <div class=\"b-cta-mini__content\">\n\n        \n        <h2 class=\"b-cta-mini__title\">File a Self Assessment for less<\/h2>\n\n        \n        \n        <div class=\"b-cta-mini__body\">\n            <div class=\"b-block-body\"><p>Get an accredited accountant to sort and file your Self Assessment so you don\u2019t need to bother with the stress.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Easy, fast, online. What\u2019s not to love?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n        <\/div>\n\n        \n        \n        <div class=\"b-cta-mini__action\">\n\n            <a data-js=\"openAuth\" data-location=\"\" data-view=\"signup\" href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/assessment\/signup\" class=\"gtm-get-started-button c-button  m-large\" onClick=\"javascript:setVariant('taxReturn');\">Get Started<\/a>\n\n\n        <\/div>\n\n        \n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-cta-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Business taxes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Corporation Tax<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Labour didn\u2019t mention any changes to <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/company-tax\/\">Corporation tax<\/a> rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They did pledge to maintain the \u00a31million <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/annual-investment-allowance-aia\/\">Annual Investment Allowance<\/a> and provide a business tax \u201croad map\u201d for the Parliament within 6 months.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Levies and Windfall tax<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Labour plans to extend and increase Energy Profits Levy (oil and gas) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/electricity-generator-levy-introduction\/electricity-generator-levy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Electricity Generators Levy<\/a>. They&#8217;re due to expire in March 2029. They&#8217;ll also increase the rate by 3%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Business rates and investments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Labour will suggest a system to replace the current <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/business-rates\/\">business rates<\/a> system to keep all businesses on an equal playing field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of business investments, they want to boost investment in UK R&amp;D (research and development), with no mention of changing the current R&amp;D reliefs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are also a load of other pledges made in regards to growing and creating wealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other general tax measures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pensions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While previously the Labour party mentioned reintroducing the <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/pension-lifetime-allowance\/\">lifetime allowance <\/a>charge, that plan was dropped during the election. That probably means other changes to pensions tax reliefs are more likely in future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High earners are recommended to increase their <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/pension\/\">pension<\/a> contributions while they can&#8230; it might not be so easy in the future!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Non-dom loophole<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously proposed by the Conservatives, Labour is adamant that they\u2019ll be closing the <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/non-domiciled\/\">non-domicile<\/a>, or non-dom, loophole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, all foreign assets within trusts would be liable to UK Inheritance Tax.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stamp Duty Land Tax<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When overseas national buy UK residential property, they pay a <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/stamp-duty-tax\/\">SDLT<\/a> surcharge of 2%. Labour will look to increase this by 1% so the total surcharged that will be paid will be 3%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Value Added Tax (VAT)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Labour have promised not to increase the main rate of <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/vat\/\">VAT<\/a>. However, when it comes to VAT on private school fees, a subject that has been heavily discussed recently, Labour has confirmed they will move forward with imposing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The verdict: drumroll please\ud83e\udd41<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what\u2019s the verdict? Will your pockets feel heavier now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, it\u2019s too early to tell. In theory, the changes won\u2019t have an effect within the next few months.
