Whilst many of us look forward to an extra day of fun in the sun, those receiving working or child <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/tax-credits-detailed-information\">tax credits <\/a>may have concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How will the bank holiday affect their payments? Will they arrive on time? Let\u2019s break it down.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are tax credits?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tax credits are a government benefit designed to support individuals with lower incomes. They\u2019re paid by <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/hmrc\/\">HMRC<\/a> and are gradually being replaced by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/universal-credit\">Universal Credit<\/a>. You can find out more about this, <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/blog\/tax-credits-changing-universal-credit\/#:~:text=If%20you're%20on%20tax,2022%20and%2027th%20May%202022.\">here<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two types of tax credits:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Child tax credit (CTC)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working tax credit (WTC)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>To qualify for one or both of these tax credits, you must:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-blue m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li>Be a UK resident<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>Be a citizen of a European Economic Area (EEA) country and work in the UK<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>Be a Crown Servant posted overseas<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>Be a citizen of an EEA country living abroad, and receive a UK <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/state-pension\/\">State Pension <\/a>or contribution-based <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/jobseekers-allowance-jsa\/\">Jobseeker\u2019s Allowance<\/a> (JSA)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Child Tax Credit?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Child Tax Credit is available to those responsible for children under 16 (or under 19 if they\u2019re in education). You don\u2019t have to be working to claim it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The amount you receive depends on how many children you\u2019re responsible for and whether it\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/child-tax-credit\/new-claim\">new claim<\/a>. But heads up &#8211; you can only claim CTC if you already receive WTC.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Worried it might affect your <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/child-benefit\/\">Child Benefit<\/a>? No need! If eligible, you can claim both.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What and how much you\u2019re eligible to varies between individuals. Here\u2019s the lowdown:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-blue m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <ul>\n<li>It doesn&#8217;t matter if you\u2019re employed or <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/self-employed\/\">self-employed<\/a><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s paid to you by HMRC<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>You need to be 16 or older to qualify<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>You can only claim WTC if you already get CTC<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li>You must work a minimum number of hours each week to be eligible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<p>Curious about the details? HMRC payments are made weekly or every four weeks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wondering which it will be? That\u2019s up to you! When you fill out your claim form, you can choose whether you\u2019d like to be paid weekly or every 4 weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here\u2019s a little bonus &#8211; tax credits are typically paid into your bank account on a Monday. So, you can kick-start the week the right way!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When are bank holiday payments made?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If a bank holiday is coming up, HMRC will pay your tax credits earlier &#8211; usually the working day before.
