The process usually takes 24 hours, and the registration fee of \u00a350 can be paid by debit or credit card.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prefer paper? You can also register by post for \u00a371, payable by a cheque made out to \u2018Companies House\u2019. This takes a bit longer (8-10 days). A Companies House authentication code comes in handy when making changes to your company like its name. But, it\u2019s not a one-trick pony, here are some more uses for it:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Filing your year-end <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/limited-companies\/what-are-year-end-accounts\/\">accounts<\/a> \u270f\ufe0f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filing your <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/limited-companies\/confirmation-statement-overdue\/\">confirmation statement<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Closing your company \u274c<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>So, now that we can agree it\u2019s important, let\u2019s find out where you can find it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to find your Companies House authentication code<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone with a company should own an authentication code. So, what do you do when you want to <strong>change your company\u2019s name<\/strong> and you can\u2019t find it? \ud83e\udee0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you forgot it or need a quick reminder, here\u2019s what to do:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-yellow m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <p><b>Log in<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Go to the Companies House website and sign in through their WebFiling service. If you don\u2019t have an account, you can easily create one there.<\/p>\n<p><b>Search\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019re logged in, look for the section where you manage your authentication code. It\u2019s usually found under your account settings or company security.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Request <\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow the prompts to request a new authentication code. You\u2019ll need to fill out a quick form.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Wait<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Companies House will send your code to your registered address or email.<\/span><\/p>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<p>Your Companies House authentication code should arrive within a few days &#8211; any longer and you should double-check that your physical and email addresses are correct. If everything looks normal, contact Companies House and they\u2019ll send you a code reminder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I change my limited company name?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you have your authentication code, you can change your company name. There are two ways you can do this:<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-nude m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <ol>\n<li><strong>Special Resolution<\/strong> &#8211; the company\u2019s directors or entitled shareholders must vote on whether or not to make the change. To pass the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/make-changes-to-your-limited-company\/get-agreement-from-your-company\">resolution<\/a>, you\u2019ll need a 75% majority in favour. \ud83d\udc4d<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li><strong>Permission granted in the company\u2019s Articles of Association<\/strong> &#8211; these are written rules about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/limited-company-formation\/memorandum-and-articles-of-association\">running of the company<\/a>, agreed upon by the shareholders, guarantors, directors and the company secretary.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<p>Before choosing your new name, you must make sure it follows all the rules for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/choose-company-name\">company names<\/a>, for example:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your name can\u2019t be the same as another registered company\u2019s name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It can\u2019t be too similar to another company\u2019s name or trade mark. \ud83d\udc40<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It must usually end in either \u2018Limited\u2019 or \u2018Ltd\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do I register this change?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can register your name change either online or by post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Registering online:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To change your name by special resolution only, use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/file-changes-to-a-company-with-companies-house\">Companies House online service<\/a>. It costs \u00a320 to file, or \u00a383 for the same-day service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Registering by post:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If applying by special resolution:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Download and complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/change-a-company-name-nm01\">NM01 <\/a>form \ud83d\udce5<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attach a copy of the resolution to your application \ud83d\udcce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send the completed form and a \u00a330 cheque to the address on the form \u2709\ufe0f<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>If registering with permission from the Articles of Association:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Download and complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/notify-a-change-of-name-by-means-provided-for-in-the-articles-nm04\">NM04<\/a> form \ud83d\udce5<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send the completed form and a \u00a330 cheque to the address on the form \u2709\ufe0f<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a confirmation statement for Companies House?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your company name is sorted, you\u2019ll need to stay on top of your confirmation statement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/confirmation-statement-cs01\">(CS01)<\/a>, an official document for all companies and LLPs registered in the UK. It\u2019s how Companies House ensures your Company\u2019s details are up to date. \ud83d\udc4c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline for filing your confirmation statement is within 14 days after the end of your 12-month review period, so we\u2019d recommend filing it as soon as you\u2019ve changed your company\u2019s name! If you miss this window, <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/limited-companies\/confirmation-statement-overdue\/\">your confirmation statement will be considered overdue<\/a>. \ud83e\udee0&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the flip side, you can also file early to notify Companies House of any changes, like your name.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have an overdue confirmation statement, don&#8217;t worry! Just follow the same steps as if you were filing it on time:<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div> <!-- .c-body -->\n\n<div class=\"b-highlight-mini m-yellow m-align-left\">\n    <div class=\"b-block-body\">\n        <ol>\n<li><strong>Check your company details &#8211; <\/strong>make sure Companies House has the correct information, such as your registered company name, address, directors and shareholders.<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li><strong>Update your details if necessary<\/strong> &#8211; visit the WebFiling service. This is also where you can find your confirmation statement going forward &#8211; unless you\u2019re using Taxfix, in which case, we\u2019ll do it for you \ud83d\ude4c<!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/li>\n<li><strong>File your confirmation statement<\/strong> &#8211; once you\u2019ve checked all your company information is correct, it\u2019s time to file!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/div> <!-- .b-highlight-mini -->\n\n<div class=\"c-body\">\n\n\n\n\n<p>While there are no penalties for late filing, there is an annual fee for submitting your confirmation statement &#8211; \u00a334 online or \u00a362 by post.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A quick note on fees&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your payment period is separate from your review period. This means you only need to pay the annual fee with your first confirmation statement in a 12-month period. After that, you can file as many confirmation statements as you like within that period without paying extra.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if your payment period runs from 1st January 2024 to 31st December 2024, and you file your statement early on 1st August 2024, you\u2019ll pay the fee.
