This is because HMRC treats it as <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">if you sold the property for a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/profit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">profit<\/a>&nbsp;and then gifted the money<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When you don\u2019t need to pay CGT on gifted property<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/capital-gains-tax\/allowances\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">some exceptions<\/a> where CGT doesn&#8217;t apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You\u2019ve lived there the entire time (it was <strong>your home<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Or you give it <strong>to your spouse<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Or you put it into a trust for the benefit of your child.
