First of all, let\u2019s work out what kind of help you need. Here are 6 common questions about sorting your taxes and how to solve them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I need help with my tax return<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is pretty simple. When it comes to your tax return, you can either get this done:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/pay-self-assessment-tax-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yourself via HMRC online<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With a traditional accountant<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using an online alternative (&#8230;ahem, like us!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I need tax advice<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lucky for you, our accredited accountants are here for a one off, 1-1 tax advice consultation for just \u00a3139. If your bill is less than \u00a310,000, they can put you on a payment plan to help you avoid any late payment penalties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speak to HMRC via the Self Assessment Payment Helpline on 0300-200-3822.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I can\u2019t find my UTR number<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve registered with HMRC for your Self Assessment in the past, you\u2019ll be able to retrieve your Unique Taxpayer Reference number. If you\u2019ve not previously registered, you won\u2019t be able to find it because it doesn\u2019t exist yet! To create one, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/log-in-file-self-assessment-tax-return\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">register for Self Assessment here<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otherwise, you can find it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On the front page of one of your previous tax returns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On any Self Assessment documents that HMRC has sent you<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under the Self Assessment section of your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/log-in-register-hmrc-online-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HMRC online account<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I don\u2019t agree with a tax decision<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, HMRC may make a decision that you don\u2019t think is fair. In this case, you\u2019re allowed to appeal it in one of the following scenarios:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Something to do with your tax bill<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A claim for tax relief<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A penalty you\u2019ve been asked to pay<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any request to see your business documents or to disclose information &#8211; although bear in mind that HMRC\u2019s powers to view your information are being consistently extended to prevent wrongdoing and evasion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to appeal a decision, you can contact HMRC on any of the following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/hm-revenue-customs\/contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">helplines<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I need free tax help<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you\u2019re on a low income, there are resources available to provide you with free help and advice when it comes to your taxes. Low income is deemed to be \u00a320,000 per year or less.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TaxAid is available 10am-4pm Monday to Friday on 0345-120-3779, or you can have a look at their free resources on their <a href=\"https:\/\/taxaid.org.uk\/guides\/taxpayers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>. It\u2019s a handy choice if accounting fees are out of budget.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I\u2019m over 60 and need a hand with my taxes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Similar to TaxAid, over 60s who receive less than \u00a3380 per week (the equivalent of \u00a320,000 per year) can seek free tax advice from the charity <a href=\"https:\/\/taxvol.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tax Help for Older People<\/a>. You can use their <a href=\"https:\/\/taxvol.org.uk\/index.php\/our-services\/our-advice-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Advice Service<\/a> or read through their resources privately.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and can be contacted by phone on 01308-488-066.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you need tax help, there are a few places you can go.
