You\u2019re not alone. With the 31st January deadline fast approaching, the system often experiences high traffic, making it harder for users to access their accounts. But don\u2019t panic &#8211; there are ways around it! \u2728<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why can&#8217;t I log into my Self Assessment? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the nightmare situation that we all dread. When you go to pay your Self Assessment and for some unknown reason, you can&#8217;t login! \ud83d\ude31 But don\u2019t worry. You can get around it. We\u2019d first recommend that you look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/self-assessment-paying-hmrc-service-availability-and-issues\/self-assessment-paying-hmrc-service-availability-and-issues\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">service status page<\/a> to see if HMRC\u2019s system is reported to not be working, or whether the problem is at your end.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the problem is theirs, you can appeal any late penalties you incur with evidence of the issue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I can\u2019t log into my Self Asssment with my current details&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the risk of stating the obvious, double-check that you\u2019re using the right details to log into your Self Assessment. \ud83d\udd0d If you are, check the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have you registered for Self Assessment?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Did HMRC send you a <a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/glossary\/utr-number\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UTR number<\/a>?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try your browser on Incognito Mode \ud83e\udd78<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try a different browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If all else fails, speak to the HMRC helpline on 0300-200-3310<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Help! What else can I do? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First things first, let HMRC know what\u2019s going on. The sooner they\u2019re in the loop, the quicker they can help you sort things out. It doesn\u2019t necessarily need to be done through your online account. If you\u2019re paying for any of the below services and more, you can also try by post or directly via your bank.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self-employed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rental income <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Profits from investment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pension relief <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To pay by post, you can send a paying-in slip addressed to <em>HMRC, Direct, BX5 5BD<\/em>. The cheque is payable to <em>HM Revenue and Customs only<\/em>. You should also include your UTR number. \ud83d\udcec<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If HMRC have already sent you a paying-in split to pay them directly, you can fill out the details and pay them by cash or cheque at your bank. When you include your UTR number, you\u2019ll have to add a <em>\u2018K\u2019 <\/em>at the end of it when you pay by this method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Use an online tax service <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>And finally, the method we\u2019ve all been waiting for. \ud83d\ude0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Taxfix, taking the hassle and stress out of tax returns is our speciality.
