They should automatically send you this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You should receive two copies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>One for your personal records <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One for your future employer (your new employer will ask for your P45 as part of the onboarding process)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you haven\u2019t received your P45, don\u2019t panic. \ud83d\ude43 Just ask your previous employer to sort one out for you &#8211; it\u2019s their job, after all. If you can\u2019t get hold of a P45, our system will simply ask for your final payslip from the previous tax year instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What&#8217;s in a P45?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A P45 contains essential information required by your new employer and for your Self Assessment tax return:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your National Insurance number<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When you left your job <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How much you earned in the tax year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How much National Insurance and Income Tax you paid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your details and your employer\u2019s<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/taxfix.com\/en-uk\/what-does-the-tax-code-mean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Your most recent tax code<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether you&#8217;re still paying off student loans<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This information helps your new employer set you up with the right tax code, so you don\u2019t end up overpaying or underpaying tax. However, your new employer will ask you to fill in a starter checklist instead.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u26a0\ufe0f Not having a P45 could mean you pay too little or too much tax. \u26a0\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you notice you\u2019ve paid too much, you can either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Contact HMRC straight away<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait for a tax rebate&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose to wait for an automatic tax rebate, this is usually done by the end of the tax year (5 April).
